About ФОСФОМІЦИН

ФОСФОМІЦИН is an antibacterial drug of bactericidal action, belonging to the phophonic acid derivatives. The drug effectively fights infections of the urinary tract, directly affecting the process of bacterial cell wall formation.

Composition

The active ingredient of the drug is fosfomycin trometamol. One sachet contains 5.631 g of this compound, corresponding to 3.0 g of pure fosfomycin. In addition to the active ingredient, the composition includes auxiliary components: sucrose, saccharin, as well as orange and mandarin flavorings.

Indications

The drug is prescribed for the treatment of acute uncomplicated cystitis in girls and women aged 12 years and older. The drug is also used for the prevention of infection complications in adults undergoing transrectal biopsy of the prostate. When using the drug, it is necessary to follow official recommendations regarding the use of antibiotics.

Pharmacological Properties

The mechanism of action of fosfomycin involves inhibiting the synthesis of peptidoglycan - a key stage in the construction of the bacterial cell wall. Due to its structural similarity to phosphoenolpyruvate, the drug inactivates the enolpyruvyl transferase enzyme, leading to irreversible blocking of the microorganism's cell wall synthesis.

In addition to its bactericidal effect, fosfomycin is also capable of reducing the ability of bacteria to adhere to the epithelium of the mucous membrane of the urinary tract.
