Phosphomycin Trometamol

Phosphomycin in granule form for preparing an oral solution is an antibacterial agent that is released in sachets of 3 g. The preparation is intended for combating infections of the urinary tract.

Composition

Each sachet contains 5.631 g of phosphomycin trometamol, corresponding to 3.0 g of pure phosphomycin. In addition to the active ingredient, the composition includes auxiliary components: sucrose, saccharin, and also orange and mandarin flavorings.

Indications

The preparation is used for treating acute uncomplicated cystitis in girls and women aged 12 years and older. It is also used for the prevention of infection complications in adults who are undergoing transrectal biopsy of the prostate. When prescribing, it is necessary to follow official recommendations regarding the use of antibiotics.

Pharmacological Properties

Phosphomycin is a bactericidal antibiotic, a derivative of phosphonic acid. It inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell wall by blocking the initial stages of peptidoglycan formation through inactivating the enolpyruvyl transferase enzyme. Additionally, the agent is capable of reducing the adhesion (adhesion) of bacteria to the epithelium of the mucous membranes of the urinary tract.
