About УВІРОМЕД

УВІРОМЕД is an antiviral medication containing valacyclovir hydrochloride as its active ingredient. The drug belongs to the group of purine nucleoside analogs and is effective against herpes viruses of various types.

Composition

Each tablet contains 1000 mg of valacyclovir. Auxiliary components include microcrystalline cellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone K30, colloidal anhydrous silica, and magnesium stearate. The film coating consists of polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, and talc.

Indications

The drug is used for the treatment of orolabial herpes, as well as skin and mucosal infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, including genital and labial herpes. УВІРОМЕД is also used for suppressive therapy to reduce the frequency of recurrences and to decrease the risk of transmission of genital herpes to sexual partners when following safe sex guidelines. Additionally, the drug is prescribed for the prevention of cytomegalovirus infection after organ transplantation.

Pharmacological Properties

Valacyclovir is an L-valyl ester of acyclovir, which is rapidly converted to acyclovir in the body. This compound blocks the synthesis of viral DNA, inhibiting the replication of herpes simplex virus types I and II, varicella-zoster virus, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, and human herpesvirus type VI. The effectiveness of the drug is based on its specific action on viral thymidine kinase, which converts acyclovir to its active form.
