About Dezofemin 30

Dezofemin 30 is a combined oral contraceptive containing the synthetic oestrogen ethinylestradiol and the progestogen desogestrel. It is used to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation and stabilising the hormonal background.

Composition

Each film-coated tablet contains 0.03 mg of ethinylestradiol and 0.15 mg of desogestrel. Excipients include lactose monohydrate, maize starch, maltodextrin, a clear isolating blend, sodium starch glycolate (type A), alpha-tocopherol and a white film-coating blend.

Indications

Dezofemin 30 is indicated for contraception. Individual risks, particularly venous thromboembolism (VTE), should be considered when choosing a product; the VTE risk with Dezofemin 30 should be assessed in the context of general contraindications compared with other combined contraceptives.

Pharmacological properties

Ethinylestradiol provides stable hormonal support. Desogestrel, after conversion to etonogestrel, inhibits ovulation and has strong progestogenic and anti-oestrogenic activity without oestrogenic or androgenic activity. It is rapidly absorbed (C_max at about 1.5 hours) with bioavailability of 62–81%.
